Contractors who are working in homes today need to understand how the house works as a system.  Homeowners and building occupants have common problems including high energy bills, rooms that don’t heat or cool properly, moisture problems (like condensation or mold), and even indoor air quality problems that can cause illness.  There is a cause-and-effect nature of making changes to a home that can have unintended consequences in other areas.  Changing just one part of the system may not be the best approach or even solve the root cause of the problem.  BPI certified professionals receive training on how to evaluate the house as a system in order to provide occupants with prioritized recommendations that keep energy efficiency, building durability, comfort, and occupant health in mind.

BPI Building Analyst Technician & Building Analyst Certification Course

The BPI training class is an exam preparation course for the Building Analyst Technician and Building Analyst Professional certification from the Building Performance Institute (www.bpi.org). It covers topics such as energy audits, air sealing, insulation, thermal & pressure boundaries, moisture management, mechanical systems, ventilation, indoor air quality, combustion science, cost/benefit metrics, and energy modeling. It is a combination of classroom and field training to prepare you for taking the BPI exams. During the following week, candidates must pass both online and field exams in order to become a “BPI Certified Professional.”

Prerequisite: Before taking these BPI exams, the student must have already earned the BPI Building Science Principles certificate. Click here for our next scheduled training, or go to the BPI web site to purchase the textbook and exam directly from BPI.
