The “hot” wall cavity in the images is showing examples of supply branch ducts that are run up exterior walls to a 2nd floor room. The image was taken in cold weather with the furnace running. The presence of of the duct in the wall cavity displaces the insulation in the wall cavity. Presumably, the builder choose to have ducts run up the exterior wall in order to maintain an open concept on the main level. Or, it was just a battle with the other trades to find a pathway to run ducts, pipes, and wires. Whatever the reason, this results in an energy penalty and handicaps the performance of the HVAC system for the rooms it is trying to feed air into. #energyaudit #energyefficient #EnergyEfficiency #comfortablehomes
